FAQ

  •  When will I get my records?
    • Pursuant to Government Code Section 6253(c) the City will respond to your public records request within 10 days. Requests are processed in the order they are received.
  • How can I get full size copies of plans?
    • Copies of plans cannot be provided without the express written permission of: 1) the licensed or registered professional who signed the document; and 2) the original or current property owner. A request must be made via registered or certified mail. The City must allow at least 30 days for a response from the professional along with sending them the affidavit signed by the person requesting copies.  Please submit a public records request and staff will send you the appropriate forms.
  • How can I access records myself?
    • The following list highlights some of the information available in our online records library, OnBase, at this link: www.malibucity.org/onbase. OnBase is not a comprehensive repository and may not contain some Planning project files with supporting documents or full-size architectural plans, surveys, color-coded slope analysis, landscape plans, building plans, historical planning files and plot plans, grading plans, open code enforcement files, etc. However, you can find complete records in the City's online portal of the following types:
      • CC - Commissions and Boards (agendas, staff reports, minutes, and resolutions for City Commissions and Boards)
      • CC - Council Documents (agendas, staff reports, minutes, resolutions, and ordinances for City Council)
      • ESD - Geology Files (geology reports, wave uprush reports, and coastal engineering reports)
      • ESD - OWTS Files (septic plot plan approvals/operating permits, etc.)
      • ESD - Street Files/Building Permits (building permit history)
      • PLN - Records (miscellaneous Planning documents)
